OUR AYRSHIRES

In 1938, Harold Gable (Don´s grandfather) purchased 10 Ayrshire cattle from Penshurst Farm, where his brother, John, was the herd manager. These 10 cows were the foundation from which today´s herd evolved. From the 1950´s to the 1990´s, the farm was managed by Don´s dad, Charles, who received many Ayrshire Breeders Association awards, including the French Trophy and many consecutive Constructive Breeder Awards. Conebella Farm has also hosted tours for state, national and international Ayrshire conventions. Visitors from every continent have toured the farm.

Don is the current manager of Conebella farm, which most recently won the Ayrshire French trophy again as the highest producing Ayrshire herd in the country (in herds over 80 cows). Herd production for 2010 was 20,565 lbs per cow (21,483 lbs ECM). Conebella Farm also participates in the Type Traits Appraisal Program. As of Dec 2011, there were 3 cows scored Excellent (1 is 2E), with an all herd average of 84 points.

The Conebella Ayrshire herd currently consists of 100 milk cows with another 100 head of young stock. Calves and heifers are occasionally sold privately and at Ayrshire consignment sales. Young bulls from our top cows are also available for sale. Inquiries and visits are always welcome.
