Our 198-acre dairy farm, Conebella Farm, has been home to 5 generations of Gables, dating back to 1923. The name ´Conebella´ was derived from the two railroad crossings, the Conestoga and the Isabella, which used to run on opposite sides of the property. Conebella Farm is 100% Ayrshire, dating back to the 1930's when the first Ayrshires were brought to the farm. Currently, we have about 200 registered Ayrshire cows and young stock. All of the forages fed to the cows are grown on the home farm and the cows are milked twice a day.
In an effort to keep the farm viable for the next generation, we became certified by the state of Pennsylvania to sell raw milk in the summer of 2007. After many inquiries about selling cheese, we started to ship milk every other month to an experienced cheese maker in Lancaster County. The cheese business has continued to grow over the past 4 years as we have added varieties of Cheddar, Colby and Swiss cheeses and cheese spreads. At our farm store, we currently sell 15 varieties of cheese, 6 cheese spreads, raw milk, yogurt (made on a local farm) and free-range eggs.
Our three sons are very involved in all aspects of the farm. They especially enjoy the fieldwork, which involves growing alfalfa hay, grass hay, corn, and rye. We currently have regular and low sugar grass hay available in both small bales and large square bales. We also have small bales of straw for sale. Delivery is available. Please contact us for additional information.
